Self Service – Liberate

by Dave ButlerJuly 3, 2019

The Afghans dedicate a good amount of fighters to securing themselves.  Large staffs, secured by large security forces.  When it’s time to do an operation, the offensive force is surprisingly unavailable.  How much time does your shop spend on self service?

Are you the type of PAO who consistently complains you don’t have enough resources?  There’s three categories of things you do – purposeful, directed or you have no idea.

Is this complaining done on the way to take a photo of a SHARP cake cutting ceremony?  Is this complaining done during a half day internal staff function?  Is this complaining done while you’re committing people and time to redundant purposeless meetings?

Liberate.

You are now free.  Congratulations.  You are free of the need to complain because you can now commit your limited resources to the mission.

You missed the meeting cause you were contributing to the organization’s purpose? That’s ok.  Some guy is using his Iphone to photograph the SHARP event cause you’re focused on mission?  He’ll probably do a better job anyway and the photos will get to the people who need them faster.

You’re free Soldier.  You are no longer going to spend your time securing your headquarters when there’s work to be done out in the field.

After all we dont need a headquarters if it doesnt produce operations, do we?  We don’t need a PAO who doesnt contrinute to the mission, do we?
