Remember getting a gold star at the top of the paper? A gold star sticker was super special. A stamp was pretty good as well. Point is, the teacher recognized you put effort into the work and wanted to show you they recognized it.
I recently received comments back on a paper. The comments were incredibly well-written, a full paragraph of professional writing – not a word wasted and provided absolute clarity. The professor took some time to think about the feedback he was giving me and took more time to expertly write it out.
I was dumbfounded. I read the comments three times immediately. The professor must have really cared to write this.
How often do we give feedback to our subordinates? Especially in PA world?
I know I’ll likely correct copy-edit type mistakes even though it’s not my job to copy edit.
I’ll likely say, “this was really good” or “eh, we need to develop this out more.”
Time is our only limited resource. Maybe we take a bit of time to think about and provide good quality feedback to our subordinates and colleagues.
Add “Provide Feedback” to your board of woe. I imagine this will help you achieve the organizational culture you’re looking for.
