There’s No Substitute For Speed

by Dave ChaceApril 8, 2020

“Some people will tell you that slow is good – and it may be, on some days – but I am here to tell you that fast is better.”
– Hunter S. Thompson

At a Super Bowl party in a buddy’s garage, an old, drunk neighbor wandered over from across the street. He gazed at the TV, seemingly through the TV, watching Patrick Mahomes run around.

“Damn. There’s just no substitute for speed.”

Amen, drunk guy. There are many things in life that only speed can get us.

For us PAOs, that means keeping up with the Information Bus. Write and ship everything you can before someone else publishes the wrong thing. Ask the right questions before the wrong story gets told. Talk to your boss about strategic risk before they make decisions. Position yourself to watch operations unfold in real time, and understand the surrounding context.

When we’re fast, we get the opportunity to be right.

There’s no substitute.
