Years ago, we found a video team member sitting at his desk, watching a movie.
“Watch movies” was not one of the items on our task tracker, so we asked what was up.
Fortunately, this team member doubled down on what he was doing. He was planning a new style for an upcoming project, and he was watching a certain director’s style, studying the cinematography.
We let him be, and sure enough his next video had some new and interesting elements. That content was original and great as usual, and the shots had interesting framing, angles, etc. It was on time, too.
It wasn’t any different than me, with a writer’s background, reading other great writing.
We want our experts to do high-end, industry-standard work. So encourage them to seek and learn from high-end, industry standard examples. Better yet, get genuinely curious in what they’re learning and how (if) they incorporate it into their work.
Tell your video pro to watch videos.
