A few years ago, I interviewed for a communications job with a big software company.
They asked me why I’d be a good fit as a communicator. Knowing their organization was well-known for its values, social responsibility, and community engagement, I pitched my background communicating the military’s values and service to America.
After a long pause, the guy said, “Okay. But we just sell software.”
Gross. With that attitude, you sure do.
Friends, PAOs, and military communication pros – don’t ever forget how good we have it! We speak on behalf of the greatest military in the history of the planet. When you and I are at our best, we spend our days building advocates for missions and initiatives that make this nation safer.
None of us have to do this job. We could just go sell software.
I’d rather we stay where we are, and do whatever we want.
